Paris Skate in the City - 2015 - Writer

Photographer friend, Mathieu Claudon, called me one day regarding a project. The idea was to link a professional skateboarder to an “arrondissement” of Paris. Etienne Bouet, co-author, was to produce the content specific to the arrondissement and I produced every interview/written portrait linking up an American skateboarder to Paris one way or another. Editions Eyrolles is a small publishing company based in the suburb of Paris. Known for their expertise in technical publications, they tried their best to understand the specificities of this project.

“The best and truest cliché about France are the arts and fashion. What’s happening here is so rich and dense. I have an intimate relationship with Paris that started when I first visited in the late 70s. Since then, it has always been like coming back home.”

Christian Hosoi

“My first goal was to go to Les Bain-Douches. I found it and just started dancing. Paris is such a rich city. Rich with culture, architecture. When I was young I would party in the city, now I enjoy the fine arts and the culture. ”

Steve Olson

“I visited Paris for the first time in 1988. I was in England with Melanie (Griffith). She was on a set and I decided to go visit a photographer friend of mine. Later, in the 2000s, I came a couple years in a row for these contests at the bottom of the Trocadero. I’m a kid from Southern California, so skating in front of the Eiffel Tower is just mind blowing. I found everything majestic and surprising here.”
