International Skateboard Film Festival 2010 - 2014

I love to tell this story because it’s genuinely how it happened: I was looking for an old skate video produced for a trade show in the early 80s. After watching it a couple of times, I wondered about the oldest skate movie ever. I found out that two movies came out in 1965: one of them being Skater Dater. Shot in Palos Verdes, CA, it won the Short Film category at the Cannes Film Festival in 1966. “Skate movies?” “Film festival?” I already knew of a plethora of surf film festivals worldwide, but I had never heard of a “Skateboard Film Festival.”

Long story short, I launched the first-ever skateboard film festival in Los Angeles in 2010. I produced, organized and curated it for 4 years in a row until Instagram changed how the skateboard community managed clips and footage.

I like to believe that I moved a couple mountains in the process. I certainly learned a lot about project management, event organization, activation and more.
